Michael Szlapak Obituary

Michael Steven Szlapak Jr., 54, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024, at Lutheran Hospital. Born on December 10, 1969, in Buffalo, New York, he was the cherished son of Michael and Christine Szlapak. Mike's legacy is lovingly carried on by his devoted wife, Amy, and their three children: Courtney and Benjamin ( both of Columbus, Ohio), and Hannah (Fort Wayne). He was also a proud grandfather to Natalie, Jazzy, Jett, and Julep. Mike left behind his father, Michael Szlapak,Sr. (Blasdell, NY) and brother David and his wife, Monica (Denver, Colorado) and brother Joshua (Warsaw, New York).

He was a proud veteran of the Air Force, serving from 1988 to 1993 with an honorable discharge. Mike pivoted to pursue the Lord's calling which led him to graduate from Nazarene Bible College in 1999 in Colorado Springs.

A man of profound faith and boundless love for his family and friends, Mike dedicated his life to service. His passion for children, fitness and woodworking were among his many interests, but it was his spiritual journey and commitment to his family that defined him. From a young age, Mike committed his life to serving the Lord and continued to do so as a children's pastor at Vineyard Church of Columbus for 21 years up until 2020, and later at The Pointe Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Through his unwavering faith and compassionate spirit, Mike touched thousands of lives, leaving an indelible mark on his community and all who knew him.

Michael Szlapak Jr. was a guiding light—a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and spiritual leader. As we remember and celebrate his life, let us cherish the memories and the profound impact he had on so many. Rest in peace, Mike. Your legacy of love, faith, and service will forever be remembered.
